War Planet Online: Global Conquest is another strategy title developed by Gameloft. The game is your typical mobile strategy game and it follows the tried and tested formula of building a base, raising an army, and taking down foes across the world map. In any case, the game does have outstanding presentation elements. It uses a real-life world map with real locations, so you can drop in your home country and start dominating! That aside, it is an MMORTS, so a great deal of inter-player interaction takes up a large part. So, is it a game you should be investing time in? Let’s find out:
Considering that it is a strategy game with a number of facets, War Planet Online: Global Conquest has a steep learning curve. Imagine sitting in a war room with your generals, planning your next move. You need to familiarize yourself with various unit types, along with their functions, and capabilities. Fortunately, the tutorial phase does a decent job in letting newbies know the game’s basic elements and facets. In addition, if you’ve played other games in the genre before, everything will feel second nature.
The War Planet Online: Global Conquest’s gameplay is almost the same as other real-time strategy titles. The tutorial teaches you the general interface and your all important role: build a base, manage resources, and raise an army to conquer other territories. Of course, the timers exist in the construction and unit production aspects, and you can shorten the wait with premium currency which can be bought with real money. This puts paying players at an advantage, but nevertheless, free players can still enjoy.
The battles are decided by which force is numerically stronger than the other. The battles are out of your control: it requires zero participation on your part. All you have to do is send them to battle and hope that you ended up sending a more powerful force. Thankfully, there are animated cutscenes wherein you can see the battles as they happen. You’re not just shown the results page, but a dynamic battle between your forces and the enemy. However, they can get a little old as you participate in more battles as you progress.
The MMO element is strikingly important in War Planet Online: Global Conquest. You can see other players and their bases around the world map. The “guild” element is called “factions” and you can join these by applying. In addition, you have the option to ‘teleport’ your base to another location in order to get near to your allies. There is a back-alley chat where you can discuss things privately with your allies (and coordinate attacks).
Overall, War Planet Online: Global Conquest may simply be a reskin of a ton of other strategy games, but its presentation elements are what make it stand out. Its art style and world design is astonishingly well-made, and the battle animations are a pleasure to look at. Although its gameplay is quite stale, it’s still a lot of fun and something you might want to invest some time in. It is available both on Steam and Android platforms.
