The legendary Kingdom of Camelot has been the subject of various stories and even games since time knows when. King Arthur and his legendary knights have inspired several developers and writers into taking their own twist into the story.

You, too, can be one of Arthur’s trusted knights. You only need to sign up for an account at the Kingdoms of Camelot website, and you’re ready to go.

To sum it up, the game is real-time strategy excursion that puts you in command of a fledgling kingdom that has been pressed into service for Camelot. It is your job to bring this kingdom up from scratch, so that it can provide armies and even resources for King Arthur and his conquests.

Merlin himself gives you a short tutorial to show you what is expected of you as the new nobleman in town. Specifically, the legendary magician walks you through the quests that you need to accomplish in the game. In this tutorial, you will learn what quests do, and you should be able to grasp early on that quests act as guides for you so you’ll know what to do next.

Pay close attention to recommended quests. The game uses “Recommended” because this quest is, while not totally optional, is not one that is marked urgent. You can skip these over for other Quests that you think are more manageable or achievable. However, they are recommended for a reason - they help you build a more solid foundation for your kingdom.

Quests give you various rewards. These include resources like wood, stone, gold, and coins. In other cases, special items like Druidic Prayers and Squire’s Hourglasses are given away as quest rewards.

Most of the time, especially in your first few hours of playing Kingdoms of Camelot, you will be busy building structure after structure for your own fief. The Quests will guide you through the process of making your facilities more productive, as well as unlocking several capabilities like researching combat power and forging alliances, among others.

Several processes can be sped up, like building, using the Hourglasses that you receive from Quests. Squire’s Hourglasses cut processing time by 1 minute, while the more rare Knight’s Hourglass can shorten time by 15 minutes.

There are also special currencies, namely the Green Gems, that can also be used to speed up construction and research, as well as recruitment of units into your military.

You are given six days of protection, in which the other players in the realm are barred from attacking you or pillaging your kingdom.

After that six days of protection expires, you are then free to attack other players through the map. If you don’t feel like having player versus player sessions, you can explore dungeon also through the map as well. These dungeons do not break your protection, and are good avenues for building Glory and ransacking loot while other players cannot touch you because of the protection.
