The gods of Greece and the best warriors of antiquity are yours to command here in Grepolis. This is a browser-based MMORTS that you can sign up using your email address or your Facebook account. The latter is more convenient, but if you don’t want to spam your Timeline with game feeds, then you should sign up using your email address instead.

You start by accomplishing a number of quests given to you by the system. Make sure to take your time in undertaking those tasks, because they serve as tutorials for you. They teach you the basics of building production buildings in your city, and attacking other people’s villages to subdue them and bring back important resources.

When building, you can find that you might be stopped from doing so because of a lack of resources. This is because of the real-time nature of the game; you have to wait until the resources are produced and become available. You can find that time when you click on the Build button for each structure - the server will indicate a time when those resources can be available.

Another way to gather resources is to either conquer other villages, or demand a tribute from those that are already under your dominion. Once you’ve conquered certain villages, they come under your dominion and you can start demanding tributes from these villages.

To attack other villages, you have to find the Island view icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Use this icon to switch between the Island and City views, the latter of which will allow you to manage your city.

Attacking other villages will trigger a short animation, about 5 seconds, and then the view will revert back to City view.

Aside from building, you can also upgrade existing buildings in your city. This will improve production, and will also unlock other features like other buildings that can add to the production and power of your city.

Both construction and upgrading will consume a certain amount of time. Tasks that have less than 5 minutes remaining can be sped up for free.

Because Grepolis is based on Greek mythology, it’s only natural to encounter the Greek deities that the Greeks worshipped back then. The deities give bonuses to the cities. For example, Hera is your starting deity, and is able to bless the city with spells that make the farms more productive. The more quests you undertake, the more deities who will join your city.

Unlike most browser-based MMORTS games, this does not include any elaborate three-dimensional animations that are usually utilized in construction and Player versus Player battle segments.
